LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Bridget Marquardt upon the occasion of
her designation as a Region 1 Coach of the Year
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those nota-
ble educators and athletic coaches within our midst who serve the youth
of this great Empire State and who have distinguished themselves and
their schools through their exemplary athletic achievements and their
outstanding commitment to education; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Skaneateles Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team Coach Bridget Marquardt upon the
occasion on being named a Region 1 Coach of the Year by the National
Federation of State High School Associations; Coach Marquardt is one of
just 5 coaches from New York State to receive this honor for the 2012-13
school year; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of State High School Associations, a
national leadership organization for high school sports and performing
arts, has been recognizing coaches through an awards program since 1982;
awards are presented to coaches who demonstrate high standards for
sportsmanship and ethical conduct; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of State High School Associations
recognizes about 450 coaches with regional awards nationwide, with
Region 1 including New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode
Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bridget Marquardt joined the Skaneateles School
District in 2001 as a high school physical education teacher and the
head coach of the Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, two positions she contin-
ues to hold; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bridget Marquardt, who has now served as the coach of
the Skaneateles Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team for 13 years, has attained
an impressive overall career record that includes two State Title Cham-
pionships in 2005 and 2006, several sectional championships, the most
recent in 2013, and countless players recruited to play Division I
Lacrosse with sport and academic scholarships; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Skaneateles School District, Coach
Bridget Marquardt also coached at several other local high schools
including, field hockey at Auburn High School and lacrosse and basket-
ball at Jamesville-Dewitt High School; and
WHEREAS, As well as coaching, Coach Bridget Marquardt has participated
in and helped organize numerous athletic programs throughout the commu-
nity, she was instrumental in establishing the Skaneateles Girls Ice
Hockey Team that began in 2003, serving as the Section III Women's
Lacrosse Chair on the State Committee, and serving as President of the
Skaneateles Girls Lacrosse Association, which mentors young athletes and
teaches them the finer points of the game; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bridget Marquardt's positive attitude, year-round
commitment, excellence in developing exceptional athletes by balancing
academics and extra-curricular activities, and overall concern for the
well-being of her students have contributed to her enduring success as a
coach and teacher in the Skaneateles Central School District, earning
the respect of her community and the State of New York; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Coach Bridget Marquardt on being named Region 1 Coach of the
Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Bridget Marquardt.
