LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief John J. LuBrant upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of dedicated service to the Niskayuna
Police Department
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of its esteemed
public servants; and
WHEREAS, John J. LuBrant announced his retirement as Chief of the
Niskayuna Police Department, effective January 31, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant began his distinguished career with the Niskay-
una Police Department as Patrolman on June 15, 1982; and
WHEREAS, He was awarded a Chief's Commendation for meritorious service
in performance of duties on May 8, 1984; and
WHEREAS, On May 21, 1985, he was awarded the Department's Exceptional
Duty Award for personal bravery after rescuing two youths from a danger-
ous situation; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant was also awarded, that same day, a Departmental
Commendation for the intelligent performance of duties; and
WHEREAS, In October of 1987, he was assigned to the Detective Divi-
sion; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant served on a special assignment as a Federal
Task Force Agent with the Capital District Division of the DEA Task
Force from April 1989 until April of 1991; and
WHEREAS, Through his hard work and dedication, he was promoted to
Sergeant on February 7, 1991, and assigned as Detective Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant attended the 183rd Session of the FBI National
Academy and has remained a member of the FBI National Academy Associ-
ation of New York State and Eastern Canada; and
WHEREAS, He was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant on January 2, 2001; and
WHEREAS, In January of 2004, Chief LuBrant was assigned as Administra-
tive Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, He has served as Chief of Police since July 28, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant is a member of the New York State Chiefs of
Police Association; and
WHEREAS, He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Zone 5
Law Enforcement Training Academy and served on the Schenectady County
Traffic Safety Board; and
WHEREAS, Chief LuBrant has been a tremendous asset to Niskayuna and
the Niskayuna Police Department, and a wonderful inspiration and leader
for Department members; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is pleased to join the Town of Niskayu-
na in expressing sincere gratitude to Chief LuBrant for his over 31
years of dedicated service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief John J. LuBrant upon his well-deserved retirement from the
Niskayuna Police Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John J. LuBrant.
