LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Laurel Hendershott upon the occa-
sion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 ACWC Balus Foundation
Young Artist Scholarship

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Laurel
Hendershott upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2014 ACWC Balus Foundation Young Artist Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, The ACWC Balus Foundation Youth Artist Scholarship, estab-
lished in 2004 by the Mark and Kathy Balus Foundation, is awarded each
year to one high school student who wishes to further his or her studies
in music/performance arts; and
WHEREAS, In addition, recipients of this esteemed scholarship are
required to perform at the ACWC's Community Arts Grants Awards and Annu-
al Gala, as well as its Annual Open House; and
WHEREAS, Laurel Hendershott, an accomplished pianist, is a senior at
the Warsaw Central School where she engages in multiple school, communi-
ty and academic pursuits, including her role as a flautist of both jazz
and classical music; and
WHEREAS, With a true passion for music, Laurel Hendershott has been
playing the flute since fourth grade; through her dedication and hard
work, she has become a student at the renowned Eastman School of Music;
and
WHEREAS, Laurel Hendershott has amassed a significant musical resume
over the years including placement in and performances with Area-All-
State (NYSSMA) and All-County Bands, performances at several ACWC Twin
Pianos concerts and the Letchworth Arts and Crafts Show; she also
participates in Warsaw High School Band and Jazz Band; and
WHEREAS, Laurel Hendershott stands poised on the threshold of a broad
and challenging world; a testament to the love and nurturing care of her
family, friends and school; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
musical scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplish-
ments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Laurel Hendershott upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the 2014 ACWC Balus Foundation Young Artist Scholarship;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laurel Hendershott.
