LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Bonnie Van Benschoten upon the occasion
of receiving the New York State Library Association, Section of School
Librarians Secondary Administrator's Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those indi-
viduals who have made significant contributions for the advancement of
public education and its library system, and have distinguished them-
selves in their dedication to the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the further sense of this Legislative Body to acknowl-
edge the significant milestones achieved throughout the careers of those
outstanding leaders whose achievements and advocacy have been instru-
mental in helping our youth achieve success at a higher level; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor and
recognize Bonnie Van Benschoten upon the occasion of receiving the New
York State Library Association, Section of School Librarians Secondary
Administrator's Award; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Library Association Secondary Administra-
tor's Award recognizes administrators who have supported the maintenance
and improvement of the district library media programs over the last
several years; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Van Benschoten has been the Principal of Durgee Junior
High School in the Baldwinsville Central School District since 2006;
prior to this position, she was the Assistant Principal from 2005 to
2006; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Van Benschoten has a long history of leading school
improvements, supporting a variety of programs and supplying the
resources needed to implement a curriculum that directly supports the
students; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Van Benschoten has played a critical role in develop-
ing the Durgee Junior High Library into a full access library and media
center which offers numerous programs to students; these services
include being the first organization in the district to have a Facebook
page, opening the library to students to eat lunch, and creating a
gaming program, which provides students with a variety of board games;
and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Van Benschoten has remained dedicated to encouraging
innovation and staff collaboration in the school; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Robert, and their
three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and recognize Bonnie Van Benschoten upon the occasion of receiving
the New York State Library Association, Section of School Librarians
Secondary Administrator's Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bonnie Van Benschoten, and the Durgee Junior High Library.
