LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Disc Jockey George Capron upon the
occasion of celebrating 50 years of distinguished service to WBRV radio
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by
the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have helped
shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Disc
Jockey George Capron upon the occasion of celebrating 50 years of
distinguished service to WBRV radio; his remarkable tenure will be feted
with a special Dinner on Friday, March 28, 2014, at Boonville Elks Lodge
2158, Boonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 50 years, George Capron has been the hometown radio
personality of New York State's North Country, a much-loved, trusted,
and knowledgeable voice providing news, weather, and entertainment to
countless listeners across generations; and
WHEREAS, George Capron began his radio career at WBRV on April 1,
1964, at the age of 19; after being put through his paces as a new DJ in
which he was required to do all the "grunt work" at the radio station
and work all shifts, he became the Top 40 DJ with an afternoon air
shift; and
WHEREAS, George Capron eventually moved to a morning time slot with
partner Ed Schnabel; the morning team of Ed and George delivered a
humorous and entertaining program which demonstrated that a morning show
could be funny and G-rated; he continues as the morning DJ to this day;
and
WHEREAS, WBRV listeners have come to depend on George Capron's reli-
able weather reports for their daily work commute; known for his passion
for the weather, especially weather in the North Country, this tireless
broadcaster has kept a detailed daily log about weather history in the
Boonville area for many years, and has accumulated a team of weather
reporters who call in weather conditions from throughout the listening
area; such is his accuracy that residents who work in Utica have
requested that he work through the lunch hour so they know what weather
to expect during their drive home; and
WHEREAS, George Capron is also well-known for his passion for music
and has an extensive personal library of a wide range of musical styles;
the consummate DJ, he has worked with Top 40, rock, oldies, and country
formats, and he has become an expert on various artists and the music
they play; and
WHEREAS, In his long and illustrious service to WBRV and the North
Country, George Capron has witnessed and withstood many changes at the
radio station and the world of broadcast technology; and
WHEREAS, This versatile DJ has thrived under three different radio
station owners, and has seen the station expand its listening area well
beyond Boonville; he has been a part of the progression from turn tables
to CD players, from cart machines to computers, and from analog to
digital formats; and
WHEREAS; George Capron is currently listened to on five radio stations
that reach an area from North Utica to the St. Lawrence Valley, includ-
ing the western Adirondacks and parts of Syracuse, entertaining listen-
ers with his knowledge of country music, interesting weather and nature
trivia, and local weather forecasts; and
WHEREAS, Possessed of a matchless work ethic, George Capron continues
to work six days a week; he is usually at the studio by 4:30AM daily
and, even though Sunday is his only day off, on most Sunday's he can be
found at the WBRV studio preparing the next week's programs; and
WHEREAS, George Capron personifies the intimate, knowledgeable appeal
of hometown radio at its best, narrating the stories of North Country
and its residents for 50 years; he has announced the birth of just about
every baby born in the area, has sent birthday and anniversary greetings
to those same babies as they have grown up, and has read the obituary of
just about every North Country resident who has passed away during his
tenure as morning show host; and
WHEREAS, George Capron has, throughout his career and purposeful life,
served his community with integrity and devotion, continuously striving
to meet the needs of his listeners through entertainment and enlight-
enment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Disc Jockey George Capron for his 50 years of matchless service
to WBRV radio and his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to George Capron.
