LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Busti
Fire Department, Jamestown, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor fire departments and their members who have exhibited great dedi-
cation, courage and selflessness in protecting their neighbors from fire
and other disasters in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 75th Anniversary of the Busti Fire Department, Jamestown, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of the "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great State's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Busti Fire Department Inc. was organized in March of 1939;
and
WHEREAS, The original building was a store converted into a fire
station; the Busti Fire Department held dances and fish dinners to help
raise the funds necessary to purchase needed equipment; in October of
1939, the Department purchased its first fire truck, a 500 gallon-per-
minute pumper built in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Busti Fire Department added a Tanker to its Fleet in
1949, along with a Jeep equipped to fight grass and brush fires; and
WHEREAS, in 1964, the Busti Fire Department started construction of a
new fire station; after its completion, the old fire hall was torn down
to make way for a new building; in 1976, they built an addition onto the
truck room and added a meeting room to the facility; and
WHEREAS, From the late 1940s to 1986, the Busti Fire Department hosted
its Annual Busti Fire Department Galadays; this event was utilized as
the primary fundraiser for the organization and provided necessary fund-
ing for equipment and operational costs of the Department; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Busti Fire Department owns a 2012 Pierce Dryside
Tanker on a Kenworth T-800 chassis, a Pierce Custom Contender Pumper,
and a 2001 Horton Ambulance on a Ford F450 Chassis; and
WHEREAS, Their active members with a focus on community service,
provide vital services to their beloved community; the volunteers who
dedicate their time to the Busti Fire Department are the first to
respond to fires, accidents, storm damage, ambulance calls and other
emergencies; and
WHEREAS, The Busti Fire Department averages 250 incidents per year;
fire and public service related calls make up 30 percent of the
responses, and the remaining 70 percent are EMS calls; and
WHEREAS, It takes special people who are devoted to helping their
fellow human beings in time of extreme need; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize distinguished fire companies that have achieved notable success in
protecting lives and property over the course of their long histories in
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Busti Fire Department, James-
town, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Busti Fire Department.
