LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ian Schupp upon the occasion of
becoming a member of the 1,000 point club in Boys Basketball
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Ian
Schupp upon the occasion of becoming a member of the 1,000 point club in
Boys Basketball; and
WHEREAS, Ian Schupp is a member of the Goshen High School Gladiators
Boys Basketball Team in Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, His quest to become only the fourth player in Goshen School
history to reach the 1,000 point scoring mark became a reality in his
season finale game against the Sullivan West Bulldogs; and
WHEREAS, Ian Schupp came into the game needing 27 points to reach this
milestone and by halftime, the sharp shooting senior guard posted 22
points on the board to lead his team to victory; and
WHEREAS, Ian Schupp would win the game with an outstanding record of
68-56 with 37 points, including 4 three-pointers, 5 from the free throw
line and 10 baskets; and
WHEREAS, Ian Schupp dedicated his season to his late grandmother, Ann
Schupp, wearing her name on his sneakers all season to remind him of his
love for her; and
WHEREAS, His drive for success also stems from the initiative to make
the Varsity All-Star Team, and participate in a Section 9 championship;
and
WHEREAS, With his older brother at his side, Ian Schupp has developed
an outstanding game by shooting hundreds of baskets, lifting weights,
and running hills, combined with his AAU seasoning with the Zion Lions;
and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Ian Schupp has earned him an
average of 19 points per game last season, and at least 26 points in all
five of Goshen's games thus far; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Ian Schupp plans to attend either LeMoyne
College or Oswego University, where he will be able to further both his
basketball and higher education careers; and
WHEREAS, Ian Schupp's overall record is outstanding; he was loyally
and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the communi-
ty at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Ian Schupp has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lan Schupp upon the occasion of becoming a member of the
1,000 point club in Boys Basketball; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ian Schupp.
