LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the West Point Society of New York
upon the occasion of holding its 100th Anniversary Founders Day Dinner,
on March 28, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the West Point Society of New York upon the occasion of holding its
100th Anniversary Founders Day Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday,
March 28, 2014, at the Union League Club in Manhattan, New York; and
WHEREAS, The West Point Society of New York is one of the oldest and
most active societies in the country; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of this venerable association is to provide an
organization through which graduates, former cadets and other persons
interested in fostering the principles and welfare of the United States
Military Academy can maintain and enhance their comradeship, while
simultaneously affording themselves the opportunity to gain insight into
the important events of today and the anticipated developments of tomor-
row with special emphasis on military and national affairs; and
WHEREAS, In March of 1914, the first formally recognized Founders Day
Dinner was held in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel; one
hundred years later, the tradition continues as the West Point Society
of New York gathers to honor the Academy and the Long Gray Line; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious centennial event will feature Keynote Speaker
Brigadier General Richard D. Clarke, United States Military Academy
Class of '84, 74th Commandant, United States Corps of Cadets; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to the West Point Society of New York;
and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, the West Point
Society of New York has demonstrated the value of supporting the United
States Military Academy, and its fine graduates, the proud men and women
who dedicate themselves to the service and protection of this great
State and nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the West Point Society of New York upon the occasion of holding
its 100th Anniversary Founders Day Dinner; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the West Point Society of New York.
