LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating SUKHI New York and "Peace for All
Day"

WHEREAS, The Peace for All Day rally was held on January 25, 2014, and
included members of the diplomatic community from the United Nations,
scholars, spiritualists, Sufis, elected officials, interfaith leaders,
and non-government organizations; and
WHEREAS, This historic international interfaith gathering was held at
Diversity Plaza in Queens, New York, where hundreds of people came
together to commemorate the birthday of the prophet Muhammad; and
WHEREAS, This commemoration was held under the auspices of SUKHI New
York, SUKHI 360, Spiritual United Nations, Nusantara Foundation, Muslim
Coalition for the City of New York, Muhammadi Center, and the Institute
of International Social Development; and
WHEREAS, SUKHI means "prosperity and happiness;" and
WHEREAS, "Peace for All Day", Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Day, was celebrated
to initiate interfaith diplomacy and to encourage harmony so that all
may live in peace now, and to assure peace and progress for generations
to come; and
WHEREAS, In spite of abundant resources and technological advancement,
many people suffer from hunger, life-threatening diseases, fear of
uncertainty, injustice and the delay of justice, and torture; and
WHEREAS, "Peace for All Day" seeks to discourage terrorism and extrem-
ism in the name of faith; and
WHEREAS, People of vision and thought need to do all they can to
initiate spiritual consciousness to combat extremism, so that all may
co-exist in peace and safety; and
WHEREAS, Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Day was initiated by people of diverse
faiths to bring peace, harmony, and a universal message of love, care,
and respect for all; and
WHEREAS, The participants of "Peace for All Day" have pledged to
become Interfaith Diplomats, joining the people of the world to form a
cohesive and progressive human society so that peace and blessings for
all may prevail on earth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate SUKHI New York and "Peace for All Day", commending the
vision and mission of this Interfaith Diplomacy Initiative to make a
better human society and our world a better place to live; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Agha Saleh, Founder/Director, SUKHI New York.
