LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Mure Jr. upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Federation of Italian-Ameri-
can Organizations of Brooklyn, Ltd.

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph Mure Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn,
Ltd., to be celebrated at its 37th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, March 30,
2014; and
WHEREAS, The Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Brooklyn
(the Federation) is a community-based service organization that provides
social assistance, education and recreational programming, and cultural
activities aimed towards enhancing the lives of individuals and fami-
lies, with a focus on those most in need: immigrants, seniors, and
youth; and
WHEREAS, For his outstanding leadership and service to the community,
Joseph Mure Jr. has been selected to receive the Federation's Humanita-
rian Award; and
WHEREAS, Criminal defense attorney Joseph Mure Jr. was born in Massa-
pequa, New York, and raised in Brooklyn's Canarsie neighborhood; he
earned his bachelor's degree from Queens College in 1983, and his J.D.
from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1986; and
WHEREAS, In addition to running a highly successful legal practice,
Joseph Mure Jr. devotes significant time and energy to many charitable
and civic endeavors; he sits on the boards of multiple organizations,
including the New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Founda-
tion, Peninsula Hospital Center, Neponsit Property Owner Association,
Howard Beach Columbus Day Foundation, and New York Families for Autistic
Children, is a member of Grey Beards, Tri-State Italian American League
Congress, Bensonhurst/Bay Ridge Kiwanis, and the Knights of Columbus
Rockaway Chapter; in addition, he serves as Chairman of the Rockaway
Children's Fund, and coaches for the Rockaway Baseball League; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mure Jr. is particularly committed to the Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation, Wounded Warriors, and Rett Syndrome Aware-
ness, and he has coordinated many events to raise awareness, provide
support, and raise substantial funds for these important causes; his
most well-known fundraiser is his annual "The Little North Pole" holiday
event to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, for which
this dedicated individual spends a month transforming his home into a
winter wonderland and then transports special needs children and chil-
dren from the Juvenile Diabetes Center to the festivities which include
Christmas decorations, free food, music, and toys handed out by Santa
Claus himself, who arrives on a fire truck; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mure Jr.'s philanthropic efforts of in-depth magnitude
have earned him numerous awards and accolades, among them: the New York
Mets Champion in the Community Award, the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award,
the Johnson & Johnson Circle of Excellence Award, the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation's Humanitarian and Volunteer of the Year awards, and
the Saint Camilles' Special Olympics Award; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mure Jr. has been accompanied throughout by his three
children, Christina, Joey, and Michael, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Mure Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of
Brooklyn, Ltd.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Mure Jr.
