LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Hank Brown upon the occasion of his
retirement after 55 years of distinguished service to radio and tele-
vision in the Mohawk Valley

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by
the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have helped
shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Hank
Brown upon the occasion of his retirement after 55 years of distin-
guished service to radio and television in the Mohawk Valley; he hung up
his headphones at his final broadcast at Good Guys Broadcasting, Inc.,
on New Years Eve, Tuesday, December 31, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Hank Brown has been synonymous with community broadcasting
for generations of Mohawk Valley residents; and
WHEREAS, In 1957, Hank Brown began his illustrious career of broad-
casting for Mohawk Valley at WLFH radio in Little Falls, New York; over
the years, he has broadcasted on WRUN, WIBX, WUTQ, and WADR; and
WHEREAS, After years as "your host for coffee and toast" on the former
WUTQ 1550 and WADR 1480 for Roser Communications Network, Hank Brown
returned to his previous frequencies on WUSP and WRCK radio, which had
since been purchased from Roser by Good Guys Broadcasting, Inc. in
Utica, New York; and
WHEREAS, Known as "Dean of Broadcasting," and for his very popular
radio show "The Hank Brown Show," Hank Brown is also famous for hosting
"Twist-a-Rama" on WKTV, a locally produced television dance show that
spotlighted local bands in the Utica area in a manner similar to a local
music scene which Dick Clark hosted on 'American Bandstand'; some of his
first guests on the show were Neil Sedaka, Diana Ross and the Supremes;
and
WHEREAS, He also had the pleasure of announcing boxing, and was
successful in his part of the broadcast team at the 1976 Olympics; he
will continue to announce boxing matches several times a year at Madison
Square Garden in New York City, and spend quality time with his family,
as well as his charity work; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife and family, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Hank Brown has, throughout his career and purposeful life,
served his community with integrity and devotion, continuously striving
to meet the needs of his listeners through entertainment and enlight-
enment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly honor Hank Brown upon the occasion of his retirement after 55
years of distinguished service to radio and television in the Mohawk
Valley; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hank Brown.
