LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Wyoming County Community Health System
on its hospital renovation, celebrated on March 8, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those esteemed institutions within the medical
community for their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the
improvement of life; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Wyoming County Community Health System (WCCHS) on its hospital reno-
vation, which was celebrated at an Open House Ceremony on March 8, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Wyoming County Community Health System is a not-for-profit
community health care system providing primary care, nursing home care,
general acute, and specialty services to residents of and visitors to
Wyoming County; it offers a variety of educational and support programs
as well as preventative screening and wellness clinics; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming County Community Hospital, the centerpiece of (WCCHS)
was founded in 1911; Dr. W. Ross Thomson, an accomplished surgeon from
New York City, established the hospital in a private residence on West
Buffalo Street with just five beds and a staff of two; and
WHEREAS, Over the next 100 years, this remarkable institution would
grow into a 138 bed, state-of-the-art medical facility thanks to the
support of its hard working professionals and the surrounding community;
and
WHEREAS, On January 6, 2014, Wyoming County Community Hospital offi-
cially opened its new 12,000 square foot addition; major improvements
include a new lobby, patient registration area, Emergency Department and
medical testing facilities to better serve the needs of its patients and
their families; and
WHEREAS, Renovations were also completed on the nursing home and
maternity unit, as well as the addition of areas for endoscopic surgery
and specialty providers; furthermore, a new sheltered ambulance area
allows patients to be transported directly into the hospital; and
WHEREAS, These new facilities will ensure Wyoming County Community
Health System continues its mission of promoting good health and quality
of life to the citizens of Wyoming County for years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Wyoming County Community Health System on its hospital reno-
vation, celebrated on March 8, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Wyoming County Community Health System.
