LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Edward A. Bogdan Jr., Esq.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. of Naples, Florida, formerly of Amster-
dam, New York, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, Born in Amsterdam, New York, on July 4, 1930, Edward A.
Bogdan Jr. was the son of Dr. Edward A. Bogdan and Valeria Olbrycht
Bogdan; and
WHEREAS, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. graduated from Amsterdam High School in
1948, and Harvard College in 1952, where he was a member of the Hasty
Pudding Institute of 1770 and SAE fraternity; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. served his country as
a member of the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955, earning the rank
of petty officer third class; and
WHEREAS, Following his tour of duty, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. entered
Albany Law School where he was editor-in-chief of the Albany Law Review
in his senior year; he was also the valedictorian of the Class of 1959;
and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. accepted a two-year
position as a trial attorney with the tax division of the Department of
Justice under the attorney general's program for honor law graduates
before returning to the Albany area to enter private practice and pursue
his interest in representing clients before the New York State Legisla-
ture; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Edward A. Bogdan Jr., Esq. retired to Naples, Flori-
da, after 40 years of distinguished service in government relations
specializing in the state budget process, state tax issues, alcoholic
beverage law, first amendment law, energy law, economic development
programs and securing state aid to relocate facilities and corporate
research facilities to New York; in addition, he represented a variety
of Fortune 500 corporations, major trade associations, not-for-profits,
and pharmaceutical companies; and
WHEREAS, One year after retiring, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. built the
fourth largest lobbying firm in New York State, Bogdan Lasky & Frazier,
LLC, of which he was a Managing Partner; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable attorney will be remembered for his represen-
tation of New York-based banks, New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Merrill
Lynch, the California Wine Institute and for his defense of the Wicks
Law; and
WHEREAS, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Edward A. Bogdan Jr.'s commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, During his lifetime, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. served on the board
of directors of the American Red Cross, the Albany Boys Club, and was
president and director of the Harvard University Club of Eastern New
York; and
WHEREAS, He also served as a trustee of both the Fort Orange Club and
the Schuyler Meadows Golf Club; was a member of the Saratoga Reading
Rooms and the Bourbonnais Fishing Club in Canada; and

WHEREAS, While in Naples, he served as a director of the Harvard Club
of Naples and belonged to both the Royal Poinciana Golf Club and the La
Playa Beach Club; he was an avid golfer, fisherman and sports enthusi-
ast; and
WHEREAS, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. is survived by his wife of 54 years,
Florence Bishop Bogdan; their four children, Agnes (Jon), Edward III
(Rosemarie), Valerie (Kevin), and Stephen; and six grandchildren, Kole
and Chase Chapski, Drew and Nate Bogdan, and Taylor and Kyle Powers; as
well as one sister, Gloria (Orkan) Stasior; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Edward A. Bogdan Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Edward A. Bogdan Jr., Esq., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Edward A. Bogdan Jr.
