LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Friends of Seniors of Dutchess
County Corporation on its 10th Anniversary of providing services to
seniors throughout Dutchess County

WHEREAS, Friends of Seniors is partially funded by the Community Founda-
tion of the Hudson Valley, the Dyson Foundation, Dutchess County and the
Dutchess County Office for the Aging; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Seniors provides the older adult community of
Dutchess County with free basic support services, including non-emergen-
cy medical transportation, grocery shopping, visiting respite for prima-
ry caregivers and telephone reassurance; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Seniors has successfully recruited volunteers to
drive their own cars to take senior citizens to their medical appoint-
ments and to the supermarket along with providing a low-cost van
service; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, 80 Friends of Seniors volunteers assisted 234 senior
citizens, driving over 76,000 miles to approximately 1,900 non-emergency
medical appointments and providing over 2,800 hours of in-house support;
and
WHEREAS, Devoted Friends of Seniors volunteers have been able to take
seniors back and forth to Albany, Kingston, New York City, Putnam and
Westchester counties, and Sharon, Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, The services of Friends of Seniors have recently expanded to
the northern Dutchess County area to include the towns of Milan, Red
Hook, and Rhinebeck; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to urge all citizens
to support our seniors throughout New York State and to assist them and
their families on a daily basis; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Friends of Seniors of Dutchess County Corporation on
its 10th Anniversary of providing vital services to seniors in Dutchess
County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Davidson, Executive Director of Friends of Seniors of
Dutchess County Corporation.
