LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elana and David Schwartz upon the occa-
sion of being named Guests of Honor by Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedar-
hurst at its Golden Jubilee Dinner on March 22, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elana and
David Schwartz upon the occasion of being named Guests of Honor by Young
Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst (YILC); the couple will be celebrated at
its Golden Jubilee Dinner at The Sands in Atlantic Beach, New York, on
Saturday, March 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Elana and David Schwartz have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Elana Schwartz is a native of Lawrence, New York, and has
been a member of the YILC since childhood; a graduate of the Stern
College for Women, she has worked tirelessly for the United Jewish Amer-
ican Federation for many years, contributing countless hours towards the
betterment of the Jewish community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has served on the YILC Hospitality and
Welcoming Committees, the Sisterhood's Annual Bake Sale, and the Mish-
loach Manot project; she is also the Vice President of the Women's Leag-
ue for the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach; and
WHEREAS, David Schwartz grew up in Los Angeles where his family was
highly involved in the Jewish community; after graduating from Boston
University's Tanglewood School for Voice, he started his own custom
clothing business out of his car in California, ultimately establishing
in New York the company known today as David Lance; and
WHEREAS, Following the example of his father, a former shul president,
David Schwartz has embodied the role of ambassador for his own shul,
serving as Vice President of the YILC for seven years and Chair of the
Membership Committee; furthermore, he is a continuing presence on the
Welcoming Committee together with his wife; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which this remarkable couple has displayed
throughout their lives of service to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Jewish
community; and
WHEREAS, With Elana and David Schwartz throughout have been their five
children, Noah, Rose, Adam, Minnie, and Joseph all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elana and David Schwartz upon the occasion of being named Guests
of Honor by Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elana and David Schwartz.
