LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Goldberg Foundation upon the occa-
sion of its designation as 2014 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year by
the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York on April 4, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Goldberg
Foundation upon the occasion of its designation as 2014 Corporate
Philanthropist of the Year by the Alzheimer's Association of Northeast-
ern New York at its "Evening to End Alzheimer's" Gala on Friday, April
4, 2014, at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary
health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate
Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research, provide and
enhance care and support for all affected, and reduce the risk of demen-
tia through the promotion of brain health; and
WHEREAS, The Goldberg Foundation is a small, but effective charitable
foundation that directly assists those in the Capital Region impacted by
Alzheimer's disease; and
WHEREAS, Leon J. Goldberg was a retired General Electric scientist
when his beloved wife Anne contracted Alzheimer's disease; he cared for
her at home until she passed at the age of 95; and
WHEREAS, Leon J. Goldberg founded the Anne B. and Leon J. Goldberg
Alzheimer's Resource Program at Albany Medical Center, which provides a
range of services for patients, caregivers, health professionals, and
the community; and
WHEREAS, Since his death in 2006, a board of directors has carried on
his mission, continuing to fund the Alzheimer's Center at Albany Medical
Center, the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, and Adult
Day Programs throughout the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
altruistic individuals and organizations it wishes to acknowledge for
their philanthropic contributions to our society which enhance the basic
humanity among us all; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Goldberg Foundation upon the occasion of its designation as
2014 Corporate Philanthropist of the Year by the Alzheimer's Association
of Northeastern New York on April 4, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Goldberg Foundation.
