LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Frederick C. Dana, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana, 91, of Middletown, New York, passed away
peacefully with his wife Helen by his side, on Friday, March 7, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana was born on June 10, 1922, in Dorchester,
Massachusetts, to Frederick C. and Margaret Dana; and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana was a veteran of World War II, serving in
the United States Naval Patrol Bombing Squadron 101, stationed out of
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, After serving as a Boston Police Officer, he moved to Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, where he worked for a Miller Distributor for 17
years; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Frederick C. Dana purchased the Sweeney Bottling
Company in Middletown, New York, and began Dana Distributors; and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana worked very hard to make Dana Distributors
what it has become today, and truly is the face of the company's slogan
"making friends is our business"; and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and even had
the chance to meet his idol, Ted Williams, at a Red Sox fantasy camp;
and
WHEREAS, Frederick C. Dana was a loving husband, father, grandfather
and a good friend to many; his contagious laugh will always be remem-
bered; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Blackwell and Marion
Flaherty, Frederick C. Dana is survived by his wife, Helen Dana; his
sister, Lillian Cabral; four children, James English (Janet), Patricia
Massa (Patrick), Kerry English (Wendy), and Frederick Dana Jr.; and 11
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and
nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Frederick C. Dana leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Frederick C. Dana, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Frederick C. Dana.
