LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Linden Towers Cooperative No. 4 and
President Arlene Fleishman upon the occasion of being recognized by the
Association for Energy Affordability's Con Edison Multi-Family Energy
Efficiency Program as a cooperative which made significant improvements
in energy usage
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those insti-
tutions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Linden Towers Cooperative No. 4 and President Arlene Fleishman upon the
occasion of being recognized by the Association for Energy
Affordability's Con Edison Multi-Family Energy Efficiency Program as one
of eight cooperatives which made significant improvements in their ener-
gy usage; and
WHEREAS, President Arlene Fleishman was presented with this high honor
at an Award Breakfast held on March 12, 2014; in addition, Vice Presi-
dent, Judith Lippel; Secretary, Barbara Gottlieb; and Treasurer, Lucy
Manfredonia were also honored for their role in this outstanding energy
savings effort which provides a healthier environment for both the unit
owners and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Linden Towers Cooperative No. 4, under the able leadership of
Co-op President Arlene Fleishman, received a free energy-efficiency
survey; subsequently, the Co-op took advantage of incentives for heating
and lighting upgrades to common areas such as hallways and laundry
rooms; and
WHEREAS, In addition to savings on utility bills, the building
improvements lower carbon emissions, create a more comfortable and
inviting place for owners to live, make the buildings more marketable,
and keep the environment clean and sustainable; and
WHEREAS, In total, the eight co-ops recognized saved 17 million kilo-
watt hours and more than 1.8 million therms, the equivalent of taking
more than 2,800 cars off the road, and avoiding the release of more than
16,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the air; and
WHEREAS, Linden Towers Cooperative No. 4 received recognition for
being the housing cooperative with the highest electric savings, saving
40 percent on electric bills; and
WHEREAS, Participating in the Green Movement Program, Linden Towers
Cooperative No. 4 upgraded fixtures and lights in all common areas,
storerooms, laundry rooms, garages, and offices in the complex, and
received six free efficiency bulbs, kitchen and bathroom aerators, show-
erheads, and up to two special energy strips in each unit; and
WHEREAS, Upon completion of the job, the rebate from Con Edison was
more than half the cost of the project; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linden Towers Cooperative No. 4 and President Arlene Fleishman
upon the occasion of being recognized by the Association for Energy
Affordability's Con Edison Multi-Family Energy Efficiency Program as a
cooperative which made significant improvements in energy usage; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Arlene Fleishman, Judith Lippel, Barbara Gottlieb, and Lucy
Manfredonia.
