LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Detective Richard J. Purvis upon the
occasion of his retirement after 20 years of distinguished service to
the Watertown Police Department

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Detective
Richard J. Purvis upon the occasion of his retirement after 20 years of
distinguished service to the Watertown Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Detective Richard Purvis joined the Watertown Police Depart-
ment in 1994 as a patrol officer; and
WHEREAS, Thanks to his hard work and respect for the position, he was
promoted to detective in 1999, and assigned to the Metro-Jefferson
Narcotics Task Force; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, Detective Richard Purvis was transferred to general
crimes in the criminal investigation unit where he served until his
retirement; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Detective Richard Purvis also served as a Field
Training Officer and a member of the Special Response Team; and
WHEREAS, Detective Richard Purvis received numerous accolades for his
work including a Meritorious Service Award, the Drug Buster Award and
was named American Legion Officer of the Year for the Watertown Police
Department in 2004; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Detective Richard J. Purvis upon the occasion of his retirement
after 20 years of distinguished service to the Watertown Police Depart-
ment; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Detective Richard J. Purvis.
