LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Louis G. Schneider posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest
honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Louis G.
Schneider posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born February 22, 1923, in Troy, New York, Louis G. Schneider
was the son of the late Louis J. and Theresa (Klee) Schneider; he
attended St. Peter's School and Troy High School; and
WHEREAS, He served his country as a member of the United States Army
during World War II from 1943 through 1945; his exceptional service
earned him the American Service Medal, the EAME Service Medal, a Good
Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal; and
WHEREAS, Louis G. Schneider worked as a Papermaker for the Behr
Manning-Norton Company in Watervliet, New York, retiring in 1983 after
46 years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return, Louis G. Schneider married Elsie T. Maple on
June 2, 1946; together they were the proud parents of two sons, Louis J.
and Paul M., and the loving grandparents of four grandchildren, the late
Arica, Brooke, Joseph, and Lindsay; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Louis G. Schneider took part in
Little League Baseball and bowling; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing;
and
WHEREAS, Louis G. Schneider died on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the
age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elsie T.
Schneider, his parents, Louis J. and Theresa Schneider, one granddaugh-
ter, Arica Schneider, two brothers, William (Judy) Schneider and Robert
Schneider. and his sister Dorothy (Tony) Urbon, Louis G. Schneider is
survived by his two sons, Louis (Mary Jo) Schneider and Paul (Kari)
Schneider; one brother, Donald (Patricia) Schneider; three grandchil-
dren, Brooke, Joseph and Lindsay Schneider; one great-grandchild, Kenne-
dy Lynn Schneider; and his sister-in-law, Betsy Schneider, as well as
several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Louis G. Schneider, who are devoted to
improving the quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives
of dignity and self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recog-
nition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Louis G. Schneider posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon
an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Louis G. Schneider.
