LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alane Ball Chinian upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Saving Special Places Award by the
Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Alane Ball Chinian has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alane Ball
Chinian upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Saving
Special Places Award by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, to be cele-
brated at its Annual Spring Awards Meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at
Treviso by Mallozzi's, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Alane Ball Chinian has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, The Saving Special Places Award recognizes an individual for
their significant contribution to land conservation in the region, which
will have a lasting impact extending beyond a single neighborhood, and
is clearly linked to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy's (MHLC) dedi-
cation to saving special places; and
WHEREAS, Alane Ball Chinian is receiving this award for her extensive
work in conservation throughout the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, As Regional Director of the Saratoga-Capital District New
York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Alane
Ball Chinian has been instrumental in the creation of a new master plan
for Thatcher State Park as the Park celebrates its 100th Anniversary;
the Helderbergs, of which Thatcher Park is a centerpiece, is an area of
special significance to MHLC, and an area it is focused on conserving;
and
WHEREAS, Alane Ball Chinian holds a Bachelor's degree in Art History
and Anthropology from Hamilton College and a Master's degree in Environ-
mental Management and Policy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in
Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, With more than 25 years of experience in non-profit develop-
ment and management for conservation and community development organiza-
tions, Alane Ball Chinian served as Executive Director of Saratoga
P.L.A.N., a community planning and conservation organization for the
Saratoga Region; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Alane Ball Chinian managed numerous public
and private grants to develop parks, trails and nature preserves in the
Saratoga Region; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Alane Ball Chinian has also served as Executive
Director of the Open Space Project, as well as Regional Director of
Development for New York State, Director of Special Projects and Assist-
ant Director for The Nature Conservancy in New York City and Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Alane Ball Chinian has served as
Vice-Chair of the Village of Cambridge Planning Board, Cambridge Main
Street Facade Grant Panelist, NYSA Architecture, Planning and Design
Program Panelist, and Advisory Board Member of the Rensselaer-Taconic
Land Conservatory; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Alane Ball Chinian has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Alane Ball Chinian has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alane Ball Chinian upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Saving Special Places Award by the Mohawk Hudson Land Conser-
vancy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alane Ball Chinian.
