LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the 10 members of Farmingdale High
School's DECA Club upon the occasion of placing in the top ten of their
respective categories at the New York State DECA Conference in Rochester

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the 10 members of Farmingdale High School's DECA Club upon the
occasion of placing in the top ten of their respective categories at the
New York State DECA Conference in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State DECA Competition lasted for three days,
March 5-7, 2014, and was attended by over 2,000 students from across the
state and Long Island, including 24 Farmingdale High School students;
and
WHEREAS, DECA, previously known as Distributive Education Clubs of
America, was established in 1946 with the goal of preparing students for
careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management around the
globe; and
WHEREAS, This sterling organization prepares future business leaders
by providing students with opportunities to learn real-world business
skills, and allowing students to demonstrate their skills, either in
teams or individually, in competition; and
WHEREAS, The New York State DECA Conference's participants compete in
highly specialized events within the generalized clusters of marketing,
finance, hospitality, management, and communications; and
WHEREAS, This year's competitive events consisted of both a written
multiple choice test and a mock business presentation, in which students
role-played as analysts or lower level members of a business, while the
judges acted as the company's owner or CEO; participants were judged on
content, as well as their manner of presentation; and
WHEREAS, DECA's popularity at Farmingdale High School has been
increasing over recent years; this year, twenty-four Farmingdale
students qualified to compete at the state level, which is a significant
increase from prior years; and
WHEREAS, The outstanding students of Farmingdale High School's DECA
Club who fared admirably in the competition are: Ally Ryan, Alexa
Torrens, Alec Szigeti, and Ryan Strysk who placed top ten in business
law and ethics team decision making; Rachel Fishman placed fourth in
visual advertising; Daviah Witter placed top ten in food marketing; Tim
Barclay placed top ten in accounting; Jasmine Rashid placed top ten in
hospitality professional sales; Michelle Fredricks placed top ten in
human resource management; and Danielle Bolan placed fourth in decision
making marketing; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 10 members of Farmingdale High School's DECA Club upon

the occasion of placing in the top ten of their respective categories at
the New York State DECA Conference in Rochester; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Farmingdale High School, and the aforementioned students.
