LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joyce Becker upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Bethle-
hem Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Becker has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Joyce Becker
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Citizen of the
Year Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce; she will be celebrated
at the 29th Annual Chamber Dinner on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the
Cyprus Shrine Center, Glenmont, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Becker is Director of Senior Services for the Town of
Bethlehem, New York; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is being recognized for her outstanding
commitment to serving the senior citizens in her community; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Becker has made an immense difference in the quality of
life of the Town of Bethlehem's senior residents through her work with
Bethlehem Senior Services, the Bethlehem Food Pantry, and the Bethlehem
Community Fund; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Becker was instrumental in incorporating a corps of
volunteers to Bethlehem Senior Services, expanding the program to serve
the population of individuals over 60 who are living independently; she
has also been active in facilitating donations for the Bethlehem Food
Pantry during the annual Delmar Turkey Trot, and oversees the Food
Pantry which supplies Bethlehem families in need; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Becker has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Her extraordinary dedication extends throughout the community
via her work with the Bethlehem Community Fund, as a member of the Board
of the Bethlehem Public Library, and her volunteer efforts on behalf of
the Annual Christmas Dinner at the First United Methodist Church in
Delmar; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joyce Becker has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joyce Becker has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joyce Becker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joyce Becker.
