LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Josephine Tardio upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by Cellini Lodge No. 2206, Order
Sons of Italy in America

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made the success and progress
of society their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Josephine Tardio upon the occasion of her designation for special recog-
nition by Cellini Lodge No. 2206, Order Sons of Italy in America; she
will be celebrated at its 46th Annual Scholarship/Charitable Benefit
Dinner Dance on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Chateau Briand, Westbury,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Cellini Lodge No. 2206, Order Sons of Italy in America is one
of the largest lodges of OSIA in New York State; for 46 years it has
demonstrated its commitment to the New Hyde Park, New York, community,
promoting education, culture, and charitable giving; and
WHEREAS, Josephine Tardio is being honored for her demonstrated
commitment to advancing the study of the Italian language, an endeavor
closely linked with the mission and purpose of Cellini Lodge No. 2206;
and
WHEREAS, Josephine Tardio, who received a master's degree in Education
from Stony Brook University, SUNY, is an Italian Language teacher and
Chairperson of the World Languages Department at New Hyde Park Memorial
High School; and
WHEREAS, During her productive tenure at New Hyde Park Memorial High
School, Josephine Tardio has truly encouraged and integrated Italian
language and culture into the life of the school; and
WHEREAS, This creative woman instituted the New Hyde Park Memorial
High School Italian Club, and has promoted an annual Italian Poetry
Contest, organized student trips to Italy, obtained grants for the
Language Department to fund special projects, and piloted and imple-
mented an Advanced Placement Italian class and exam, giving students a
firm grounding in the language before embarking on their college
careers; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to remaining on the forefront of Italian language
instruction and program development, Josephine Tardio is a member of
both local and national chapters of the American Associations of Teach-
ers of Italian, Long Island Language Teachers, New York State Associ-
ation of Foreign Language Teachers, and Foreign Language Association of
Chairpersons and Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Josephine Tardio has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Josephine Tardio upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Cellini Lodge No. 2206, Order Sons of Italy in America;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Josephine Tardio.
