LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 26th Anniversary of the Queens
Nan Shan Senior Citizen Center of the Chinese-American Planning Council
to be celebrated May 22, 2014

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished senior
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 26th
Anniversary of the Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizen Center of the
Chinese-American Planning Council to be celebrated May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Chinese-American Planning Council and the Nan Shan Senior
Citizens Center work to help older adults remain healthy, vibrant, and
active by providing a place for them to gather, share a meal, socialize,
exercise, meet friends, and share their life stories; and
WHEREAS, The Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizens Center provides opportu-
nities for learning, assistance, and social activity for the ever-grow-
ing number of elderly Chinese in Flushing; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizens Center
offers a wide variety of programs ranging from congregate meals to
recreational and educational activities to ESL and naturalization class-
es; and
WHEREAS, The Queens Nan Shan Senior Center also provides nutritious
meals through its Meals-on-Wheels Program and home health services
through its Home Attendant program; it offers homebound seniors the
opportunity to interact with a friendly face, helping to break down the
walls of isolation that so often attend the homebound elderly; and
WHEREAS, The success of the programs offered by the Chinese-American
Planning Council at sites such as the Nan Shan Senior Center, has
encouraged the Council to expand its senior programs and look to open
new locations; and
WHEREAS, This milestone is an excellent opportunity to recognize the
special contributions of Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizen Center and the
dedicated individuals who strive to better the quality of life for the
many Chinese senior citizens residing in Flushing; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 26th Anniversary of the Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizen
Center of the Chinese-American Planning Council to be celebrated May 22,
2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queens Nan Shan Senior Citizen Center, and the Chinese-
American Planning Council.
