LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Barry B. Foster, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Barry B. Foster, of Livingston, New York, on
April 19, 2013, at the age of 70; and
WHEREAS, Barry B. Foster was born on May 11, 1942, in Liberty, New
York, the son of the late Arnold and Joan Foster; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Livingston Manor High School, where he
was a star basketball player, Barry B. Foster served his country honor-
ably as a member of the United States Army from 1963 until 1965; he then
graduated from Emporia State University with both a bachelor's and a
master's degree; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man then began a long and influential career as
an educator in both Sullivan and Orange counties; he taught high school
English in Livingston Manor, Delaware Valley, Hancock and Fallsburg
schools; furthermore, he became assistant principal and later principal
in the Pine Bush School District, before retiring as Principal of Falls-
burg High School, in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his brilliant career as an educator, Barry B.
Foster displayed an infectious sense of humor and intense love of teach-
ing; he guided and mentored countless young students and teachers during
his tenure; and
WHEREAS, Barry B. Foster was also a highly respected coach, leading
many successful teams in numerous sports including men's and women's
basketball, cross country, and swimming; he inspired his players to work
hard and to always give their best; and
WHEREAS, A talented businessman as well as an avid sports enthusiast,
he opened the store, Hot Corner Sports Collectibles, after his retire-
ment, running it for ten years; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous civic and professional organizations,
Barry B. Foster served as president of the Livingston Manor Central
School Board of Education, as well as the president and assistant direc-
tor of the Livingston Manor Rotary Club; in addition he was a member and
master of the Livingston Manor F&A Masons Lodge #791; and
WHEREAS, Truly epitomizing his belief in "Service Above Self," Barry
B. Foster also gave of his time and energies as board member for the
Roscoe Nursing Home, the Shandalee Music Festival, the Chamber of
Commerce, and the Livingston Manor Renaissance; and
WHEREAS, Barry B. Foster distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; his determination and commitment to his work, inspired
generations of students, as well as all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, He will be long remembered for his kindness and sense of
humor, positive outlook, and deep love for teaching, sports, his home-
town, most of all his family; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his parents, Barry B. Foster is predeceased by
his sister, Nancy Jane Foster; he is survived by his loving wife, Diane;
and his two sons, Ryan (Claudia) and Corey Sims (Kirsten); as well as
his three grandchildren, Ayla, Arley and Sorin; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and remembered by a loving family, Barry B. Foster leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Barry B. Foster, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Barry B. Foster.
