LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Inner City Handball Association upon
the occasion of holding its 23rd Annual High School Spring Meet
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Inner City Handball Association upon the occasion of holding its 23rd
Annual High School Spring Meet on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the
Central Park North Meadow, New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, For over 20 years, the Inner City Handball Association (ICHA)
has been providing creative, safe, inexpensive, fun activities that
combine athletics and academics for young people from all communities of
New York City and Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Offering the most comprehensive youth handball training
program in the New York metropolitan area, the ICHA is committed to
helping young people grow while having fun in an atmosphere of camarad-
erie and encouragement; and
WHEREAS, The ICHA believes that the sport of handball presents young
athletes with the opportunity to build their physical and mental stamina
while developing coping skills necessary for every aspect of life; and
WHEREAS, The High School Spring Meet was started in 1991 by profes-
sional handball player, Paul Williams; in its 23rd year, it continues to
bring youths together from around the New York area to learn and compete
in the sport of handball; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and the ICHA has clearly made a contribution to the
development of young people in its community; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Inner City Handball Association upon the occasion of holding
its 23rd Annual High School Spring Meet; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Inner City Handball Association.
