LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Derek E. Broomes upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the Ambassador for Christ
International Outreach Ministry and Gateway Christian Center on Sunday,
May 4, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession or
other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Derek E.
Broomes upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Ambassador for Christ International Outreach Ministry and Gateway
Christian Center at its 4th Annual Pastors and Women of Distinction
Appreciation Awards Gala on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Floral Terrace,
Floral Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, Derek E. Broomes is being recognized for his exemplary work
and commitment to his community, which serves to empower others; and
WHEREAS, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harlem Congregations
for Community Improvement, Inc. (HCCI), Derek E. Broomes joined HCCI in
2002 as the Chief Financial Officer with primary responsibility for the
investments portfolio and corporate financial operations; after nine
years of commitment and dedicated service to the company, he was
promoted to his current position on December 14, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Derek E. Broomes is a University of London trained Financial
Economist; he received a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics and Finance
with honors from the London School of Economics, and Diplomas in Physics
and Mathematics from the University of London, UK; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he earned a Master's of Science/CPA degree in
Public Accounting and Finance with honors from the Graduate School
Center of the City University of New York and the New York University
Graduate School of Business; he also attended Executive Management
training at Harvard University and the Wharton School of Business,
University of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Among numerous accolades, in 2000, Derek E. Broomes received
the Congressional Outstanding Achievement Award for promoting economic
progress and development in the Bronx County; in 2002 he received a
second Congressional Award honoring him for his influential leadership
in the Bronx' economic business development, particularly in the area of
minority business; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Derek E. Broomes upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Ambassador for Christ International Outreach Ministry
and Gateway Christian Center on Sunday, May 4, 2014, noting his unremit-
ting and compassionate faith and his exemplary service to God, man, and
his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Derek E. Broomes.
