LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Marguerite Izzo upon the occasion of her
induction into the National Teachers Hall of Fame on March 28, 2014

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
accomplishments of those outstanding educational leaders, whose dedi-
cation and achievements have been instrumental in developing character
and academic excellence in the young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Marguerite Izzo upon the occasion of her induction into the National
Teachers Hall of Fame on March 28, 2014; she will be formally inducted
on June 13, 2014, in Emporia, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, Marguerite Izzo, a fifth-grade teacher at Davison Avenue
Intermediate School in Lynbrook, New York was surprised by teachers and
students with news of her selection for this significant honor; she also
got a front-row seat for students performing the Pharrell Williams hit
song "Happy"; and
WHEREAS, The 2007 New York State Teacher of the Year Marguerite Izzo
serves on the board of directors of the National Network of State Teach-
ers of the Year and has worked with the New York State Education Depart-
ment to bring the voice of teachers to policymakers; and
WHEREAS, Marguerite Izzo engages her students, mentors other teachers
and is a strong advocate for education; she brings enthusiasm and
passion to her classroom every day; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Marguerite Izzo provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Marguerite Izzo has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of her school, as well as on the Lynbrook community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marguerite Izzo upon the occasion of her induction into the
National Teachers Hall of Fame on March 28, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marguerite Izzo.
