LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Warsaw High School Varsity
Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of capturing first place in the
Battle at the Capitol Cheerleading Competition
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Warsaw High School Varsity Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of
capturing first place in the Battle of the Capitol Cheerleading Competi-
tion, held March 29-30, 2014, in National Harbor, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, The Warsaw High School Tigers Varsity Cheerleading Team are a
skilled, hardworking collection of young women ranging from eighth grade
to seniors; they practice year-round, focusing on developing dance
routines that require great stamina, coordination, and sheer athleti-
cism; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding student-athletes perform at football and
basketball games, as well as other functions, honing their performances
along the way; they focus on physical conditioning, while practicing
their choreography and timing; and
WHEREAS, The Battle at the Capitol is a major cheerleading contest
that brings teams from across the Eastern seaboard to compete over two
days for the top prize; and
WHEREAS, The Warsaw Tigers moved into first place with an outstanding
performance in the first round of the competition, followed up with
another high-scoring routine on the second day to take first place
against very tough competition; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Melissa Countermine and Assistant
Coach Kelli McClurg, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for
their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated and hardworking team members were loyally and
enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the community at
large, who greeted the winners as they returned with a special cele-
bration; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and the Warsaw High School Varsity Cheerleading Team has
clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Warsaw High School Varsity Cheerleading Team; its members:
Taryn Conley, Marissa Conley, Andrea Flint, Sam Flint, Caitlin Pietron,
Riley Luplow, Rachael Grieg, Brooke Proper, Shelby Evans, MaKayla Irwin,
Madison McClurg, Kylie Parmerter, and Hailey Murphy; Head Coach Melissa
Countermine, and Assistant Coach Kelli McClurg on their outstanding
season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Warsaw High School Varsity Cheerleading Team and to the
aforementioned staff.
