LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback posthu-
mously upon the occasion of her induction into the 2013 Athletic Hall of
Fame by the SS Seward Institute

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional sportsmanship and generous voluntary leader-
ship captivated the hearts and minds of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback posthumously upon the occasion of her
induction into the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Insti-
tute, which was celebrated at a ceremony held at its Alumni and Veterans
Fields during its Homecoming on October 19, 2013, in Florida, New York;
and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Institute
Athletics Program, Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback was a faculty member from
1951 to 1986; during that time, she was a constant attendee at practi-
cally all the Spartan and Lady Spartan athletic events; and
WHEREAS, As a foreign language teacher at SS Seward Institute, Elmeda
Matuszewski Shuback was the cheerleader advisor for many years; she also
kept score at some of the athletic games, sold tickets, or acted as a
crowd controller while always rooting for the players; and
WHEREAS, Apart from her school activities, Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback
helped organize the Florida Girl Scouts of America Troop, and was a
Brownie Leader; she also taught Sunday School, and was a long-term advi-
sor to the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout were her three children, Thomas, Mary
Helen, and Judy, all of whom felt privileged to be a part of her life
and rejoiced in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback was also known as "Mrs. Mom" to
three generations of Seward students; and
WHEREAS, Educators such as Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback provide a
tremendous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring
generations of student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring
their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback clearly was an inspiration to the
youth of the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who worked to support our proud tradition
of public education by providing their skills and talents to our
students and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback posthumously upon the occasion
of her induction into the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward
Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Elmeda Matuszewski Shuback.
