LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Golub Family upon the occasion of
their designation as recipients of the Anschel Weiss Community Builders
Award by Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York on May 22, 2014
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Golub Family have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Golub
Family upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Anschel Weiss Community Builders Award by Jewish Family Services of
Northeastern New York, to be celebrated at its 160th Anniversary Party
on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Museum of Innovation and Science,
Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Golub Family, Neil and Jane, Jerel and Geraldine, David
and Andrea, as well as Mona Golub and Marie DeBrocky, have been called
upon to contribute their time and talents to countless civic and chari-
table endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of their decades of commitment to the Capital
Region, Jewish Family Services is paying tribute to the Golub Family;
their generous support of not-for-profit organizations throughout the
community embodies the spirit of this illustrious award, Serving Humani-
ty with Humility; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, countless organizations have benefited
from the Golub Family's heartfelt community involvement, including St.
Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Albany Medical Center, Ellis Medi-
cine, Proctor's Theatre, Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York,
Albany Symphony, The Doane Stuart School, Union College, and Interfaith
Partnership for the Homeless; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being an integral thread in the fabric of
Albany's business community, the Golub family made their home and raised
their families here in the local community, and have been feeding the
Capital Region since their grocery business began in 1900 in Schenecta-
dy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, the members of the Golub Family have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which the Golubs have displayed throughout
their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Golub Family upon the occasion of their designation as recipi-
ents of the Anschel Weiss Community Builders Award by Jewish Family
Services of Northeastern New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned members of the Golub Family.
