LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Erika Romero upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Noticias y/e Notas Communications
Award by The College of Saint Rose in collaboration with the Communi-
cations Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
students within the great Empire State who have made strong contrib-
utions to their communities and who serve as role models for their
peers; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those individuals whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of the citizens
of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Erika Romero upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2014 Noticias y/e Notas Communications Award by The College of Saint
Rose in collaboration with the Communications Department, to be cele-
brated at its inaugural allocation on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in
Jack's Place; and
WHEREAS, This award celebrates the value of multicultural voices in
the media given to a student such as Erika Romero who demonstrates
commitment to perpetuating socially-inclusive dialogues and sharing
experiences influenced by social and cultural identity, especially with-
in the Latino and Luso communities; and
WHEREAS, Erika Romero, a first generation American, submitted an audio
narrative work sample centered on the significance of when she and her
twin sister reached the age of 21; for them, this milestone meant that
they could legally sponsor their Colombian parents as they pursued Amer-
ican citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The vibrant and passionate Erika Romero is an involved
student at The College of Saint Rose, serving as an Office Ambassador in
the Office of Intercultural Leadership, and African-American, Latino,
Asian and Native American Leadership program; she hopes to one day host
her own radio talk show, promoting diversity through her own experi-
ences; and
WHEREAS, Erika Romero has, throughout her education and purposeful
life, served her community with integrity and devotion, continuously
striving to meet the needs of her listeners through entertainment and
enlightenment; and
WHEREAS, She may stand with pride in her achievements, experiencing
the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her accomplishments, eager
to face the challenge of new experiences as she continues her education;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Erika Romero upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Noticias y/e Notas Communications Award by The College of Saint
Rose in collaboration with the Communications Department; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Erika Romero.
