LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Mark Sullivan upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in
Education by Senior Services of Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Sullivan has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Mark
Sullivan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014
Third Age Achievement Award in Education by Senior Services of Albany,
to be celebrated at its 18th Annual Third Age Achievement Awards lunch-
eon on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Sullivan is Professor of Education, and Director of
the R. Mark Sullivan Institute for Higher Education Leadership at The
College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than 39 years, Dr. Mark Sullivan has been an educa-
tor, leader in the field of higher education and passionate advocate for
community service; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man, who earned a doctorate in education
from Harvard University, served as Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer of Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York, as well as
the President of The College of Saint Rose, where he led the college in
an unprecedented period of growth; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Sullivan has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, He has served on many boards of organizations in New York
State's Capital Region, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity,
the American Cancer Society, Literacy Volunteers, and America's Promise;
and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 46 years, Kathleen,
their son, Jeremiah, and daughters, Kate and Anna, as well as their five
grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Mark Sullivan has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Mark Sullivan has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Mark Sullivan upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2014 Third Age Achievement Award in Education by Senior
Services of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Mark Sullivan.
