LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Daniel J. Staples upon the occa-
sion of receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the most pres-
tigious of Scouting honors, on April 27, 2014
WHEREAS, Daniel J. Staples, through his diligence and rigorous efforts,
has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout;
the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 27,
2014, at the Newark Middle School Auditorium in Newark, New York; and
WHEREAS, Daniel J. Staples, son of Peter and Karen Staples, is a
member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 122, Newark, New York; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned by
only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of Eagle
Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting for
many years, appointed as Senior Patrol Leader, and has lived up to
Scouting's ideals and has attained all of the necessary achievements,
including completion of a community service project, which was success-
fully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For his project, Daniel J. Staples paired with the Newark
Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance Junior Membership to make a tutorial video
on sudden cardiac arrest; he went around to several of the fall sports
teams and presented how to respond, and had them participate in a drill
with a fake victim to practice what they had been taught; after vide-
otaping the presentations, the videos were edited to make the tutorial,
and distributed to surrounding school districts; and
WHEREAS, A student at Newark High School, Daniel J. Staples attends
the New Visions Program at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and is
currently earning his EMT certification; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Boy Scouts of America, Daniel J. Staples is a
member of numerous clubs, and participates in activities including:
Interact Club, Link Crew, Newark Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance, and
National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, A stellar athlete, Daniel J. Staples was a member of the
Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team, Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Team,
Varsity Boys Soccer Team, and Varsity Outdoor Track Team; during every
sports season, he earned the auspicious honor of the Scholar Athlete
Award; and
WHEREAS, Daniel J. Staples has volunteered his time and energies in
service to his community in countless ways; he is active in Saint
Michael's Church, various service projects with the Boy Scouts of Ameri-
ca, Saint Paully's Used Clothing Box, and assisted with Newark's EMS
during NAVA; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, Daniel
J. Staples's other awards and recognitions include: Pope Pius XII
Award, Chemistry Achievement Award, George Eastman Young Leaders Award,
chosen to attend Boys State 2013, Daughters of the American Revolution
Good Citizen Award, and Script N Character Award; and
WHEREAS, Daniel J. Staples's perseverance in rising through the ranks
to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult
tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Daniel J. Staples on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel J. Staples.
