LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Queensboro Council for Social
Welfare upon the occasion of hosting its 23rd Annual Reception to honor
Queens Social Workers
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Queensboro Council for Social Welfare upon the occasion of hosting
its 23rd Annual Reception to honor Queens Social Workers at a ceremony
held on Friday, March 21, 2014, at HANAC, George T. Douris Tower in
Astoria, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Queensboro Council for Social Welfare, now 86 years old,
is the only generic social policy and planning agency in the County of
Queens; and
WHEREAS, Encompassing more than 50 different member agencies and human
service workers, the Queensboro Council for Social Welfare acts as a
Queens Human Service Chamber of Commerce in its mission to improve the
human service delivery system in the borough for children, adults, teens
and senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Working with service providers in all fields, the Queensboro
Council for Social Welfare attempts to improve and expand services; they
provide over 1,500 people with needed services through their Information
and Referral Program; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their Information and Referral Program, the
Queensboro Council for Social Welfare takes pride in providing technical
assistance and training for service providers, keeping them up to date
with the current information, prevailing trends, and necessary tools;
and
WHEREAS, A solid cornerstone of the community, the Queensboro Council
for Social Welfare publishes six issues of The Human Services Newsletter
of Queens for professionals, and twelve issues of Neighbor News for the
public, free of charge; they also sponsor conference and convene coali-
tions; and
WHEREAS, The Queensboro Council for Social Welfare's other special
events include: the Salute to Social Workers in March, the Salute to
Senior Center and Adult Day Care Center Directors in April, an Orien-
tation to Human Service in Queens in September, and the Annual Network-
ing and Annual Awards Luncheon & Networking Exhibition in October; and
WHEREAS, As a not-for-profit agency, the Queensboro Council for Social
Welfare is governed by a Board of Directors, an experienced staff, and
assisted by a dedicated corps of volunteers; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to organizations such as the Queensboro Council for Social Welfare which
serve to bring people together for the united purpose of actively pursu-
ing improvements in their communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Queensboro Council for Social Welfare upon the occasion of
hosting its 23rd Annual Reception to honor Queens Social Workers; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queensboro Council for Social Welfare.
