LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Harrison "Slam" Allen upon the occasion
of his induction into the Monticello Central School District's inaugural
Hall of Distinction on November 3, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Harrison "Slam" Allen upon the occasion of his induction into the Monti-
cello Central School District's inaugural Hall of Distinction celebrated
at a ceremony held in the school's Arnold Packer Hughes Auditorium on
Sunday, November 3, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor graduates or attendees, or former teachers or
staff members who have made a lasting and outstanding contribution to
society upon graduating or leaving the Monticello Central School
District; and
WHEREAS, Slam Allen is a graduate of Monticello Central School, Class
of 1984; and
WHEREAS, A guitarist and singer, he was named "Future Legend of Blues"
by BLUES MAGAZINE and has written and produced four critically acclaimed
albums; and
WHEREAS, As the lead singer and guitarist for the legendary blues
harmonica player James Cotton, Slam Allen wrote two original songs on
Cotton's Grammy-nominated CD "Giant"; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, Slam Allen was voted "Best New Soul/Blues Artist" by
the Manhattan Blues Alliance; in addition, his critically acclaimed 1998
release "Things Sho' Done Changed" on the RaveOn label garnered praise
among blues aficionados; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Slam Allen has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Harrison "Slam" Allen upon the occasion of his induction into the
Monticello Central School District's inaugural Hall of Distinction; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Harrison "Slam" Allen.
