LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ida Mae Mitchell posthumously upon the
occasion of her induction into the Monticello Central School District's
inaugural Hall of Distinction on November 3, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service were an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ida
Mae Mitchell posthumously upon the occasion of her induction into the
Monticello Central School District's inaugural Hall of Distinction cele-
brated at a ceremony held in the school's Arnold Packer Hughes Auditori-
um on Sunday, November 3, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor graduates or attendees, or former teachers or
staff members who have made a lasting and outstanding contribution to
society upon graduating or leaving the Monticello Central School
District; and
WHEREAS, Ida Mae Mitchell served as a member of the Monticello Central
School District's Board of Education from 1969 until 1977; in this
capacity and as Vice President, she was known for her love of humanity
and her passion to help children; and
WHEREAS, Ida Mae Mitchell worked tirelessly and faithfully to ensure
African American students were accepted into Ivy-league colleges; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Sullivan County Community College Board of
Trustees, Ida Mae Mitchell earned a Service and Dedication Award for the
study of Afro-American Life and History; and
WHEREAS, Ida Mae Mitchell's outstanding dedication made her a much
loved and respected member of the Monticello community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Ida Mae Mitchell displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ida Mae Mitchell posthumously upon the occasion of her induction
into the Monticello Central School District's inaugural Hall of
Distinction; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Ida Mae Mitchell.
