LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Marianne E. Bertuna upon the occasion
of her designation as the recipient of the IBG Professional Woman of the
Year Award by the Italian Board of Guardians on May 29, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations
and individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and in
service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Marianne E. Bertuna, partner at Aidala & Bertuna, P.C., upon the occa-
sion of her designation as the recipient of the IBG Professional Woman
of the Year Award by the Italian Board of Guardians to be celebrated at
its 78th Annual Bishop's Gala on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Russo's on
the Bay in Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Italian Board of Guardians, located in Bensonhurst,
Brooklyn, New York, is a non-profit social services agency, affiliated
with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, and a
member agency of both United Way of New York City, and the Human
Services Council; and
WHEREAS, Since 1936, its mission is dedicated to addressing the social
needs of communities and individuals throughout the Greater New York
Metropolitan area, regardless of race, gender, age, creed, or ethnic
origin; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Italian Board of Guardians gratefully acknowl-
edges those who support and work on behalf of its worthy endeavors; a
woman of singular distinction, Marianne E. Bertuna has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in her unwavering service to her community as well as her
profession; and
WHEREAS, Marianne E. Bertuna is a partner at the law firm of Aidala &
Bertuna, P.C; she began her legal career as an associate in the law firm
of Arthur L. Aidala & Associates after graduating from New York Law
School in 2001; after seven years of practicing law at the firm, she
became a partner in the law firm with Arthur L. Aidala; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Marianne E. Bertuna graduated from Georgetown
University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and French;
although she knew as a high school student at Poly Prep Country Day
School she wanted to be a lawyer, she also knew strong business skills
are the foundation for any successful career; and
WHEREAS, While her parents Nanette and Gerald Bertuna always empha-
sized the importance of a good education, Marianne E. Bertuna credits
her parents and the time which she spent at their business, Aldo's Photo
Studio, for her strong business sense and skills; she and her sister,
Christine, spent much time helping their parents, watching them run a
successful business in Brooklyn for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Today, Marianne E. Bertuna practices primarily in the areas
of criminal defense and real estate law; and
WHEREAS, In 2012 and 2013, Marianne E. Bertuna was selected by SUPER
LAWYERS MAGAZINE as a Rising Star; in addition, she was nominated by the
National Advocacy for DUI Defense as one of the top one hundred DWI
attorneys in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Marianne E. Bertuna has
been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless civic
and charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstintingly;
and
WHEREAS, Marianne E. Bertuna is Second Vice President of the Columbian
Lawyers Association, 1st Judicial Department, and a member of the Board
of Governors for Poly Prep Country Day School, and Board of Trustees for
the Brooklyn Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her parents, with her throughout have been her
sister, Dr. Christine Bertuna-Haines (Dr. Lawrence Haines), and the
newest addition to the family, her niece, Madison, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals who have distinguished themselves in their profession and have
faithfully served the needs of their community with diligence and
compassionate commitment to improving the quality and dignity of life in
the community are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated
and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Marianne E. Bertuna upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of the IBG Professional Woman of the Year Award by the Italian
Board of Guardians on May 29, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marianne E. Bertuna.
