LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Norwegian-American 17th of May
Committee of Greater New York upon the occasion of their 63rd Annual
Norwegian Constitution Day Parade on Sunday, May 18, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend events which symbolize the historical, social, and cultural
development of this great State and embody the spirit of the principles
upon which this Nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater New York, Inc. as
they host the 63rd Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade, in Bay
Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, May 18, 2014, in accordance with
the commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of Norway's
Constitution; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Bay Ridge is host to the Norwegian Constitution
Day Parade along Fifth Avenue, and in accordance with their tradition of
annual themes, Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee has authored the
2014 theme to be "200 Years of Democracy"; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 63rd Anniversary of the Norwegian Consti-
tution Day Parade, a parade which continues to attract more and more
spectators along the parade route, and has become one of New York City's
most notable attractions in the month of May; and
WHEREAS, The parade will include musical and marching bands, dancers
and entertainment of all kinds, in special celebration of culture for
Brooklyn, for New York City and for the entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The parade provides an opportunity for a grand celebration of
Norwegian heritage, which features guest appearances by the annual
winner of the Miss Norway contest and the Consul General's Office of
Norway; and
WHEREAS, The treasured values of families united and wholesome enter-
tainment for all ages reflected in this event help to foster community
spirit and cooperation, as well as to preserve the beliefs, ideals, and
values for which our forefathers declared the independence of these
United States; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater New York
upon the occasion of their 63rd Annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade
on Sunday, May 18, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Norwegian-American 17th of May Committee of Greater New
York.
