LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lisa Smith, proprietor of Coquette
Boutique, upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014
Business Person of the Year Award by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce
on May 9, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those illus-
trious individuals and institutions of the State of New York whose
purposeful endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
Lisa Smith, proprietor of Coquette Boutique, upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Business Person of the Year Award
by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce; she will be honored on Friday,
May 9, 2014, at the Pineapple Ball to be held at the Garden City Hotel,
Garden City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Smith will receive this auspicious award for her signif-
icant contributions to the local economy, and the welfare of the Garden
City community, as well as her outstanding professionalism; and
WHEREAS, A 1999 graduate of Garden City High School, Lisa Smith was
always interested in fashion, heading up the costume department for the
high school's Masquers, and designing her own senior prom dress; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Fordham University in 2003, Lisa Smith
began her career in fashion as a shoe buyer for Bloomingdales, where she
gained priceless experience working with shoe designers for four years;
eager to make a big move and pursue her dream, this Garden City native
left Bloomingdales to open a local boutique which would offer residents
and nearby fashion followers a trend-driven and convenient place to shop
and be styled; and
WHEREAS, In October of 2007, Lisa Smith's Coquette Boutique opened its
doors, revealing a super chic atmosphere adorned with an oversize
chandelier, and antique furnishings to display her eclectic collections;
and
WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Coquette Boutique has grown tremen-
dously, introducing many new lines and expanding its accessory and
jewelry selections; in the summer of 2012, Lisa Smith added the
"Coquette Mobile," housed in a 1966 Airstream trailer, which is
Coquette's fully functional traveling boutique that matches the chic
feel of its storefront, offering a petite selection of the flagship;
this mobile boutique can be seen in the warmer months at local beaches,
fairs, and house parties; and
WHEREAS, Lisa Smith focuses on her local community by employing many
young women from the community, and utilizing their talents as models
for the shop's clothing; customers know when they shop at Coquette, they
will not only be helped by a passionate fashionista, but they are also
helping to support local jobs; and
WHEREAS, Through all of its growth and changes, Lisa Smith has held
true to her original ideal of giving the style-conscious women of Garden
City and surrounding communities a convenient haven to shop; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her parents, husband, family,
and friends, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, With her proven business leadership abilities and her evident
dedication to the community she grew up in, Lisa Smith is the quintes-
sential selection for this prestigious Businessperson of the Year Award;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lisa Smith, proprietor of Coquette Boutique, upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Business Person of the Year
Award by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lisa Smith, Owner, Coquette Boutique.
