LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gary Striar upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus in Public Adminis-
tration and Policy Award by the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs
and Policy

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Gary Striar has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gary Striar
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Distinguished
Alumnus in Public Administration and Policy Award by the Rockefeller
College of Public Affairs and Policy, to be celebrated at its 2014 Alum-
ni Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 16, 2014, at the New York
State Museum, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy
honors individuals such as Gary Striar, for their outstanding contrib-
utions in the areas of political science, public administration, leader-
ship, and continuing professional development; and
WHEREAS, Gary Striar, a resident of Delmar, New York, is Regional
Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Northeastern New York
Region; the Region serves a population of nearly 1.9 million people
living in 17 counties of eastern New York running from the Canadian
border south to Ulster and Dutchess Counties; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Gary Striar, the Red Cross
consolidated the operations of five separate chapters in the Northeast-
ern New York Region, reducing operation costs by 20 percent while
improving service to clients; and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming CEO, Gary Striar served as State Relations
Director for the American Red Cross in New York State, where he repres-
ented all Red Cross chapters in New York State, as well as the New York-
Penn Blood Region, on government issues; he also worked for the State of
New York for several years, including serving in the administration of
Governor Mario Cuomo; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Catherine, and their
two sons, Adam and Sam, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Gary Striar has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Gary Striar has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gary Striar upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Distinguished Alumnus in Public Administration and Policy Award by
the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gary Striar.
