LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim Wednesday, May 7, 2014, as YMCA Statewide Healthy Kids Day in
the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious organizations within this great State and Nation whose focus
and intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memo-
rialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Wednesday, May 7, 2014, as
YMCA Statewide Healthy Kids Day in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA has touched the lives of virtually all Americans,
through its support of many endeavors including camping, public
libraries, night schools, group swimming lessons and lifesaving, and
teaching English as a second language, chronic disease prevention
programs; and
WHEREAS, The Alliance of New York State YMCAs is comprised of 45 inde-
pendent Ys and more than 120 YMCA branches, making up an extraordinary
group of dedicated nonprofits working together to strengthen the commu-
nities of New York State; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA is for youth development and is dedicated to nurtur-
ing the potential of every child and teen; the YMCA is for healthy
living and is committed to improving the nation's health and well-being;
and the YMCA is for social responsibility as well and is devoted to
giving back and providing support for its neighbors; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA created the nation's largest health day for children
and is celebrating the 23rd year of Healthy Kids Day; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Wednesday, May 7,
2014, as YMCA Statewide Healthy Kids Day in the State of New York; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York, and to The Alliance of New York State YMCAs.
