LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Korean War Veterans Association,
Cayuga County Chapter 296, upon the occasion of celebrating its 10th
Anniversary
WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces, who served so faith-
fully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at
stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve
the highest commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Korean
War Veterans Association, Cayuga County Chapter 296, upon the occasion
of celebrating its 10th Anniversary, to be celebrated on Saturday, May
3, 2014, at the Sunset Restaurant, Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2004, the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA)
upholds the memory of those who served in the Korean conflict, perpet-
uating the legacy of those members of the United States Armed Forces who
sacrificed so much in the defense of their country, while supporting a
free Korea; and
WHEREAS, KWVA Cayuga County Chapter 296 has been active in the support
of numerous veterans causes; its first major project was the
construction of the Korean War Veterans Monument in Veterans Memorial
Park in Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, this esteemed organization dedicated Auburn's Veter-
ans Memorial Park in honor of Cayuga County war veterans who served our
country from the Revolutionary War to the present day; this outstanding
memorial includes monuments, memorial paths, gardens and pavers; it also
notably honors soldiers who have served both at home and abroad during
our country's history; and
WHEREAS, KWVA Cayuga County Chapter 296 is ably led by its founder,
Commander John Barwinczok, a veteran of the United States Navy who was a
member of the Naval Underwater Team, the forerunner of today's SEALS; he
is the sole commander in the chapter's history; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Korean War Veterans Association, Cayuga County Chapter 296,
upon the occasion of celebrating its 10th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Barwinczok, Commander, Korean War Veterans Association,
Cayuga County Chapter 296.
