LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Donald A. Ogilvie upon the occasion of
his retirement as Superintendent of the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative
Educational Services, after 43 years of distinguished service in public
education
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Donald A. Ogilvie upon the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent
of the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, after 43 years
of distinguished service in public education, to be celebrated with a
Retirement Party in his honor on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Acqua
Restaurant, Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Donald A. Ogilvie has served as the District Superintendent
of the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services (Erie 1 BOCES)
for the past 17 years where he is responsible for providing a variety of
instructional, managerial and technological services to 19 school
districts in Erie County; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Donald A. Ogilvie is also the field repre-
sentative of the New York State Commissioner of Education to those 19
Erie County School Districts, as well as to the Buffalo Public Schools;
and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming District Superintendent of Erie 1 BOCES,
Donald A. Ogilvie served for eight years as Superintendent of the
Hamburg Central School District; he has also served as Superintendent of
both the Southwestern Central School District and the Chadwicks Union
Free School District; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Donald A. Ogilvie was a building Principal in
the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District and began his illustrious
career as a classroom teacher and team leader in the Williamsville
Central School District; and
WHEREAS, Donald A. Ogilvie holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in
Education from Buffalo State College, and a Certificate of Advanced
Study in Educational Administration from the University at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, Donald A. Ogilvie is currently
Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Buffalo Philanthropic Orches-
tra Society, a Trustee of WNY Public Broadcasting-WNED, a Trustee of
Hilbert College and a Trustee of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Donald A. Ogilvie is a member of the Vestry of
St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, the Buffalo State College President's
Community Advisory Board, the Rotary Club of Buffalo and Leadership
Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Donald A. Ogilvie provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Donald A. Ogilvie has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, as well
as on the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and
applause for his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donald A. Ogilvie upon the occasion of his retirement as Super-
intendent of the Erie 1 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, after
43 years of distinguished service in public education; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donald A. Ogilvie.
