LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jason Gutlaizer upon the occasion of his
selection as a New York State Master Teacher by the New York State
Master Teacher Program

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of distinguished purpose whose lives have been
committed to public service and the pursuit of excellence in the educa-
tion of the youth of the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Jason Gutlaizer upon the occasion of his selection as a New York State
Master Teacher by the New York State Master Teacher Program; this pres-
tigious designation was announced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday,
April 14, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) seeks to
identify, reward, and support outstanding teachers in the academic
disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
throughout New York State, with the goal of cultivating their roles as
professional mentors and content experts in order to not only further
enhance their abilities, but to also develop skilled future teachers;
and
WHEREAS, Jason Gutlaizer, a STEM teacher in Nassau County's Sewanhaka
Central High School District, has been recognized for his commitment to
professional growth and learning and excellence in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Through NYSMTP, this dedicated educator will work with a
community of like-minded professionals, engage in comprehensive profes-
sional development activities, and receive access to cutting-edge devel-
opments in his field via linkage to one of New York State's leading
research institutions, Stony Brook University, SUNY; and
WHEREAS, As a Master Teacher, Jason Gutlaizer, already an acknowledged
leader in his educational community, will be a model for STEM teaching
throughout New York State; he will share his knowledge and experience
with other educators so as to further student success and improve
student readiness for college and beyond; he will also, through example
and mentoring, build the capacity of the next generation of teachers;
and
WHEREAS, Jason Gutlaizer truly merits this prestigious award; he
embodies excellence in teaching, devotion to the learning needs of his
students, and commitment to the maintenance of high standards in the
education of the children of New York State and the nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in recognizing
esteemed citizens who distinguish themselves in service to their commu-
nity and their profession and is particularly proud to pay tribute to
teachers such as Jason Gutlaizer, whose commitment and dedication
enhance the stature of education in the State of New York; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jason Gutlaizer upon the occasion of his selection as a New York
State Master Teacher; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jason Gutlaizer.
