LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the 2014 Nassau County Police Athletic
League Volunteer Award recipients on May 2, 2014
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in accord with its long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the 2014
Nassau County Police Athletic League Volunteer Award recipients; they
will be recognized at the organization's Annual Award Dinner Dance on
Friday, May 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The 2014 Nassau County Police Athletic League (PAL) Volunteer
Awards recipients have devoted themselves to helping their communities
throughout the organization's numerous chapters; and
WHEREAS, Michele Yurman and Debbie Guida are being honored for the 12
years of service each has contributed to the Bethpage PAL; and
WHEREAS, At the Valley Stream PAL, Blake McCauley is being recognized
for his 12 years of service, and Joseph Fitzgibbon is being recognized
for his 11 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Christine Thomson is being honored for her 20 years of
service to the Uniondale PAL; and
WHEREAS, BessMarie Caras is being recognized for her 12 years of
service to the New Hyde Park PAL; and
WHEREAS, Chris Parlo is being honored for his 11 years of service to
the County/Syosset PAL; and
WHEREAS, At the Merrick PAL, Ken Mandel is being recognized for his 40
years of service, and Brian Solomon is being recognized for his 10 years
of service; and
WHEREAS, Joe Bentrewicz is being honored for his 40 years of service
to the Hicksville PAL; and
WHEREAS, Terence Parrish is being honored for his 25 years of service
to the Roosevelt PAL; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commitment
toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting as
role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and young people;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the 2014 Nassau County Police Athletic League Volunteer Award
recipients on May 2, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned honorees.
