LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring William A. Whelly, III upon the occasion
of his induction into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a
Student-Athlete on May 2, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William A. Whelly, III upon the occasion of his induction into the Bish-
op Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a Student-Athlete, to be cele-
brated at its Induction Dinner on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Shaker Ridge
Country Club, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 2002 graduate of Bishop Maginn High School, William A.
Whelly, Ill played Varsity Basketball for two seasons and Varsity Base-
ball for three seasons; he was also a three year Varsity starter in
Football where he played running back and quarterback on offense, as
well as linebacker on defense; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was selected to The Big Ten Conference All-
Star Team on defense and was a leader on the 2000 Section II Class AA
Super Bowl Finalist Team; and
WHEREAS, Selected to play in the 2001 Section II Exceptional Senior
Team, William A. Whelly, Ill received the high honor of being chosen New
York State All-State 4th Team on Defense, TIMES UNION All-Area 2nd Team
Defense, SCHENECTADY GAZETTE All-Area 1st Team Defense, and the presti-
gious National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Capital
District Chapter Scholar Athlete Award; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, William A. Whelly, Ill received the Bishop
Maginn Outstanding Student Athlete Award and the Bishop Maginn Princi-
pal's Award for Outstanding Merit; and
WHEREAS, A 2006 graduate of Siena College and a 2010 graduate of Alba-
ny Law School, William A. Whelly, III is currently a Partner in his own
law firm, Dunne & Whelly, PLLC; he and his wife, Colleen Nowosielski
Whelly, have a two year old son, William Whelly, IV; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William A. Whelly, III upon the occasion of his induction into the
Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame as a Student-Athlete; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William A. Whelly, III.
