LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sister Anne Tranelli upon the occasion
of her induction into the Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame on May
2, 2014

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through partic-
ipation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in
their profession or other endeavors, or through a lifetime of good citi-
zenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sister Anne
Tranelli upon the occasion of her induction into the Bishop Maginn High
School Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its Induction Dinner on Friday,
May 2, 2014, at Shaker Ridge Country Club, Albany, New York; in addi-
tion, she will receive the illustrious Service Award; and
WHEREAS, A 1947 graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-
Barre, Pennsylvania, Sister Anne Tranelli played on the girls Volleyball
Team; she continued on to The College of Saint Rose where she received a
Bachelor's degree in Spanish and then to Case-Western Reserve University
where she earned an MA in Spanish; she completed her graduate studies in
Administration at Fordham University and Manhattan College; and
WHEREAS, Sister Anne Tranelli has been a Sister of St. Joseph's for
more than 59 years; she has taught in several schools of the Albany
Diocese, including St. Brigid's, St. Mary's Institute, St. Ann's School,
Cardinal McCloskey High School and Bishop Scully High School; she subse-
quently became principal at Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam; and
WHEREAS, Upon leaving the education field, Sister Anne Tranelli was
named the Executive Director of Hispanic Outreach Services; and
WHEREAS, Sister Anne Tranelli has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades some of which include the 1994 Amigo Award from the
Amsterdam Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the 1995 Carondelet Medal of
Honor from The College of Saint Rose, the 2000 Women of Achievement
Award from the YWCA of Schenectady, the 2002 Harriet Tubman Humanitarian
Achievement Award, and the 2011 St. John Newman Award for her commitment
to Catholic Education from the Catholic Schools-Diocese of Albany; and
WHEREAS, President of the Bishop Maginn High School Board, Sister Anne
Tranelli has served on many Boards, both past and present, including
Catholic Schools Administration Association of New York State, National
Association of Family Life Ministers, Albany Diocese School Board,
Catholic Central High School Board of Directors, College of Saint Rose
Board of Trustees and the James Housing Development Fund Corporation
Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and career to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Anne Tranelli upon the occasion of her induction into the
Bishop Maginn High School Hall of Fame; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Anne Tranelli.
