LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Edward J. Ulfik, III,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. Ulfik, III of Oxford, New York, died on March 31,
2014, at the age of 33; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 8, 1980, in Meadowbrook, New York, the son of
the late Edward J. Ulfik, Jr. and Catherine Hughes Ulfik, Edward J.
Ulfik, III, fondly known as EJ or Big Ed, was an honors graduate of
Oxford Academy and Central School; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. Ulfik, III graduated from the Otsego County Law
Enforcement Academy in Oneonta, New York, in 2006; a former Public Safe-
ty Dispatcher for the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, he served the
Town of New Berlin Police Department for over five years and most
recently, the Village of Oxford Police Department for the past seven
years; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. Ulfik, III's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A Gatekeeper and known by his friends as All County Ed,
Edward J. Ulfik, III was a member of the Oxford Fire Department Explor-
ers prior to joining the Oxford Fire Department and Emergency Squad,
where he was currently serving as 1st Lieutenant in the emergency squad;
and
WHEREAS, He was also a member of the Chenango Ambulance Company where
he served as a Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, Edward J. Ulfik, III, a New York State certified AEMT-CC,
attended many classes through the New York State Academy of Fire Science
and FEMA Emergency Management Institute; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Edward J. Ulfik, III is survived
by his mother; his sister, Elizabeth Ulfik; his fiancee, Tiffani
Rombach, and her children, Addison and Dillon; his uncle and aunt, Chris
and Alison Hughes and children, Christopher, Alicia, Angelo, and Kait-
lyn; his cousins, Kristy Lynn and James Scarabeno and children, James,
Anthony and Joseph; his godmother, Elaine Velten and her husband, Jim;
and special friends, Ashley and Rob Bartholl; as well as his beloved
dogs, Jaxon and Molly; and many, many friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Edward J. Ulfik, III leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Edward J. Ulfik, III, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Edward J. Ulfik, III.
